Food safety training is not only a legal requirement for any business handling food and/or water for consumption (sanctions for non-compliance are severe). It is also an indispensable condition to ensure a reputation that allows to grow the business. That is why the food business must ensure that it provides its workers with continuous and regular training in food hygiene.

The current regulation establishes that all foods destined to the final consumer, including those delivered by the communities and those intended for supply to collectivities, must contain labels that offer the truth about the product and do not mislead the consumer. They must not disguise their nature, identity, qualities, composition, quantity, duration, origin or provenance and their method of manufacture or production, nor should they attribute to the product effects or properties it does not possess or suggest that the product possesses unique characteristics when in fact similar products also have them.

The current regulation establishes that any establishment that offers meals, unpackaged or packaged foods at the request of the consumer or prepared dishes of immediate sale is responsible for having a system that allows them to inform their customers about the possible allergens present in their dishes or products, with the corresponding sanction in case of non-compliance. That is why it is very important that companies devote resources to the fulfillment of the training requirements of these workers.

The food business is responsible for commercializing food that is safe and complies with current food legislation, in accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety.
